noord nederlands toneel

The noord nederlands toneel (NNT) is a professional theatre company based in Groningen, The Netherlands. The company, directly financed by the Dutch governement, is one of the six largest professional theatre groups in The Netherlands. NNT consists of about 30 people working full time, but frequently engages guest actors, directors and playwrights.
Their principal productions, ranging from radical adaptations of classical world repertoire to contemporary new work, tour along fifty theatres in The Netherlands and abroad.

In January 2009 Ola Mafaalani became artistic director. For her new company Mafaalani is scheduled to make national and international main stage productions.
NNT's theatre reflects social and political issues. Engagement and freedom of thought related tot their own innate curiosity and uncertainties are characteristic for NNT. The company looks for the human aspects, without belittling and without taking recourse to simplistic and therefore misleading answers. Their choice of repertory reflects the foregoing. NNT considers it her task to present the great theatre manuscripts on the stage, in an modern setting.
